@Everyone,
All videos of 2010 have been encoded and should be available to both contributors and free members for beta testing. Please let me know if these play well on your smart phone.
At this time, my target is to make videos available on iPhone, iPod Touch, Palm Pre, Andriod and only high-end BlackBerry devices, preferably over WiFi.
For all other phones, the target is to have the mobile version of the website working, so that you can read the content and share your comments easily via mobile version of website.
Thanks

@sadaat – I have enabled the mobile theme for Nokia
If it does not work, can you please then email me the IP address you are seeing on your Nokia immediately followed by opening pkpolitics.com?
In summary, do this on your Nokia:
- open website pkpolitics.com
- if you don’t see the mobile version, open whatismyip.com on your Nokia and email the address you see.
I will try to detect your browser agent and configure the server accordingly.

Dear admin, I am using opera mini browser with Meridian Player on my Android G1 to watch pkpolitics videos, but no video is running. Message says ‘Sorry, this video is not valid for streaming to this device’
January 26th, 2010 at 11:21 pm
@asfeen,
I could not find any trace of browser agent “blazer” in my server logs. Can you open the site on your palm followed by whatismyip.com and email me your IP address. I will check and locate your agent.

@proudmuslim,
I have worked with an Android user for many hours and gave up on the videos.
For now, we are only supporting the web interface on Android.

It works well on my Nokia E71 and shows the mobile profile with both the built in browser as well as opera mini 4.2. With opera mobile 10 beta it doesnt show mobile profile.
The only complaint I have is that it shows an option to download the MP4 file even though the link says Play Video. Clicking it results in starting the file download and only after the download finishes it starts up the external video player (Real Player or in my case Core Player). It would be great if you can also provide a true instant playing option. I wonder if there is an equivalent file format for mp4 files similar to .wmx or .wvx file format for windows media that itself is just a text file and contains a link to actual media file. If it was possible then downloading such link file would mean it will launch the player instantly and the video will start playing instantly while streaming in the background.

@asfeen,
I tried searching all possible agent strings in my logs and could not find anything. There is a chance that an application proxy by your mobile provider is re-writing the agent strings.
Does your mobile have WiFi that you can use to connect to your home network?
January 30th, 2010 at 4:43 am
@RA,
We tried of doing that, including embedded videos, but the issue is that every mobile browser, unlike desktop browsers, need a different code to play these videos.
The “Play Video” options is the only working solution on most different number browsers. Apple iPhone and iPod are intelligent enough to discover MP4 files as video files and start playing them immediately as streaming videos. Our streaming server also support “seeking” feature, which allows the videos to be played from anywhere without fully loading it.

no admin I don’t have WiFi in my phone. Anyways thanks for trying. Most probably I wont be watching videos through my mobile but wanted to test the feature.

Thanks for the mobile feature.
I have a BB Bold 9630. I installed opera mini above as you mentioned. I can access the mobile website but the video does not show as it says that mobile videos are only available to contributors. I try logging in but it that does not seem to make the problem go away.

@humanity is the greatest virtue,
Thanks for pointing out. Just found out that server was not creating folders for new months automatically.
All videos are being encoded now and will be available in around 15 minutes time.

When I try to watch a video on my iPhone 3G, I get the following error:
Download Failed
Safari cannot download this file
What do I need to do? I am a premium member.
February 2nd, 2010 at 5:46 am
I think the accounts are not synchronized with the videos. Free system was working perfect. Myself and a lot others are having the same problems.
February 2nd, 2010 at 5:55 am
To continue on my last post, it seems that if I turn to the regular version and then login then I can login. But then when I turn on the mobile version, clicking on play video gets me the option of saving the file – which does not download: it says fetching file error – or opening the file – which launches back into the browser. Any advice.

Admin,
I have a Blackberry 9630, I can access the mobile site through Opera mini, but when I go to a specific video and click on the “Play Video” thing, it ask me to download the video. The try to download it, but get an error message instead.
February 4th, 2010 at 8:51 pm
@kraizii,
Are you still having this issue?
February 4th, 2010 at 8:52 pm
@Justice4all,
Mobile videos are only available for mobile users and free videos are for everyone.
February 4th, 2010 at 9:06 pm
@Everyone,
Just want to let you know that we have finished beta testing last week and mobile videos are only available for contributors.
For Videos, PKPolitics will only provide technical support to users having Apple mobile devices. Other devices may work but that would be at your own luck. Apple iPhone/iPod Touch play the videos automatically as streaming video and also supports seeking the video to any location without loading the complete video. Most other phones can’t play the videos in that format and attempt to download locally.
For Mobile Website (web site only), PKPolitics will ensure that every possible phone is supported so that you can easily check new content and read/write comments using the “PKPolitics Mobile”.

February 12th, 2010 at 9:53 am
@kraizii,
Can you try watching over your personal WiFi connection just to make sure it is not an issue from mobile provider? Were able to play videos in the past?
February 13th, 2010 at 12:15 am
@admin
there is the same error whether I use wi-fi or 3G network of AT&T my mobile provider.
Is anybody else from AT&T network able to watch videos on their mobile here in the US?
February 14th, 2010 at 1:10 pm

February 14th, 2010 at 1:12 pm

“Just want to let you know that we have finished beta testing last week and mobile videos are only available for contributors.”
I’ve just read’ it now
February 26th, 2010 at 4:34 am
I’m a premium user, and in the U.S. The videos don’t work for me either on AT&T 3G or over wi-fi. I’ve just given up.
February 26th, 2010 at 4:35 am
I’m using an fully updated, latest iphone.
February 26th, 2010 at 12:34 pm
@Omar,
I was finally able to replicate that issue by accident.
I setup a proxy/caching server and ran the iPhone traffic through it and noticed that the proxy server tried to download the whole file first locally before sending to iPhone. This makes the iPhone timeout while waiting for the proxy to download complete file.
I will try couple to things to see if I can resolve this.
I was thinking to push the iPhone videos at maximum speed rather than at video bitrate so that the there is less chance of proxy servers to timeout, or change the format of the stream so that it forces the proxy servers not to cache this traffic.
I will let you know how it goes.

@Admin
I am not able to play any videos on my BlackBerry Storm 9530. I get the following error when I try to play a video.
HTTP Error 413: Request Entity Too Large
The page you requested could not be loaded. Please try loading a different page.
March 14th, 2010 at 9:02 pm
If for some reason, you are not able to fix the issue, you can at least provide a link to download mp4 file on the PC version of the website, so that premium users can download the video to the pc and transfer it to their mobile device.
March 15th, 2010 at 3:18 am
Hello, i was wondering if it will work on my HTC HD2.
Thanks
March 18th, 2010 at 12:17 am
@ataraxis6,
I will add MP4 download option on main site by coming weekend.
@MARINAKHAN,
The login button is on top right corner. If it does not show on your phone, can you try installing opera mini from http://www.opera.com/mini ?
